3.5** while I really liked the overall themes in this book and it was an enjoyable read, I had a hard time jumping on board with the magical aspect of a modern love story... it just didn't really *fit* for me personally. I do however really enjoy the author and her ability to make the characters seem so real.

Magic and black romance!? Sign me up!!

This book was everything! EVERYTHING! I was so pleasantly surprised!

I really don’t know what I enjoyed more, the romance between Ricki and Ezra or the friendships with Ms Della and Tuesday.

I do wish we got more of a background on the magic part of the story. But I really have no complaints.

This was def a fav of mine for 2024.

I love magical realism and I had a lot of hope for this. But it had major insta-love and I HATE insta-love in a book. Like two days and Ricki and Ezra are falling in love. I get there's the fated love element, but I just can't get behind it. I loved reading about Ezra though- I almost would have rather read a historical fiction about him.

Whoa! This is the type of books that makes you believe in love stories again! I don't want to reveal too many specifics because you need to read it for yourself. This is honestly my favorite read of the year so far! I had seen so many people write in their reviews how this is going to be the top reads of the year and it definitely is.

Tia Williams is just a magnificent writer and turns a subject like this which you think is completely unbelievable into a couple that you're rooting for the entire time. You will shed tears at the end, there is magical realism involved which I thought I was going to hate and throughout the book as it was happening but omg it was written perfectly.

Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for an ARC in exchange for an honest review as always, all words are my own.
