This book was so weird and unique and the main character's powers were so cool. I liked how fast-paced it was and how quickly shit hit the fan.

I do have one major complaint though... (SPOILER WARNING)

From a linguistic angle, it is absolutely absurd to think that two cities that have been completely isolated from each other for 300 years will still speak the same language and be able to understand each other. I wish the author had considered the implications of this separation, rather than just having everyone speak the same language (even though that was more convenient for the plot).

I feel bad for giving it 2 stars, but I couldn't connect with it.
The descriptions felt bleaks (and repetitive) most of the time and the dialogues between characters didn't really feel natural to me. The plot is kinda meh and seemed unfinished, with a lot of points that just were passed by without much attention to it, and the "action" in it was also very flat.
The story also felt extremely slow and I ended up listening to it at 2x.

It has a lot of potential but it ended up being very underwhelming.

This was so good I read it in one sitting! It’s been awhile since I’ve done that. This felt like reading a new kind of fairytale and I loved it!

This was such a soft, cozy fantasy! A little romance, a little banter, but the fantasy was just right for a fall day.

Okay firstly, This book is not at all what I expected.

I expected a fractured fairy tale and the very traditional save the world story arch. But, Wow just wow. Having read so many fractured fairy tales I find I can predict the story and the ending very easily when reading. but this book, this book does not follow the traditional save the world story arch at all. It begins with the tragic destruction of everything that they have know and her starting on a quest to protect the crown and bring it to the forest city, under the assumption that the Lady of the Wilds can fix the curse and save the kingdom she grew up in. But that isn't the case at all, which the author foreshadowed beautifully in the prologue (without you knowing).

Of course there is always one or two things I would liked to have seen play out differently, but overall if your hesitant about this story, just give it a try.

This one is hard for me. I wanted to like this more than I did. I love the concept but in general just felt underwhelmed by the execution. The pacing felt off for me, I think. That being said I do acknowledge that I'm not the target audience and it is probably perfect for young girls, so objectively I don't think it's bad. Just not for me.
