This was indeed better than the first though still quite slow. I was yelling at her to check the other manor the whole time.
It has a lot more of that adventurous feeling that I remember. It also has a lot of awkwardness especially in descriptions. I wonder if that's a fault of the original book or the revisions.

I had this book as a youngster (It's still at my parents)
To me Nancy Drew was the height of sophistication and bravery.

Nancy Drew did scare me when I was young, and this is just the kind of book I would like to re read as an adult.

I wish Goodreads would separate the Original Text Nancy Drews with the Revised Text versions, because I'm reading both books and they are distinctly different. I had never read the OT of this one, and was surprised to find Nancy packing heat! She's also described as having blonde CURLY hair, which I never really got from the pictures of the original books. This wasn't my favorite for the obvious reasons that it was dated and had racial stereotypes, but the story overall was very good.

*part of my chronological first time read of the Nancy Drew books*

I enjoyed this far more than the first book, but I don't think it's hit its stride yet. There's sufficient mysterious happenings both with the 'haunted' house and her father's court case, so my interest was held, but I would have liked a bit more clues scattered throughout.

For most of it, it felt very wishy washy on the investigations until the end when everything happens all at once. It's so short but the lack of reveals or clues in the midsection made it feel longer.

I love Nancy as a character, and I see a lot of potential in these books even if I'm not "feeling it Mr Krabs" yet

I think again the beginning of this series as a whole is very simple and pretty straight forward. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Just makes a lot of plot points easy to guess at times. I’m still enjoying my slow read through of the series and can’t wait to meet more characters and read more mysteries.
