This may be the best field guide in existence; it makes me wish Sibley would produce one for more than just birds and trees. The level of detail is astonishing, and the sketches are fantastic for demonstrating the variations within a species. The descriptions are concise but offer every trick to help initiate to expert birders find birds and identify what they're seeing. Every naturalist should own a copy.

EDIT: the Second Edition is even better! Have been using it since late last year.
