This was a bizarre fever dream but wildly entertaining.

This was a really quick listen, voiced by the incredible Pedro Pascal. I listened to it in one single sitting and I think that really helped. This is one that had I set it aside for any amount of time, I would have forgotten important details.

There is a great paranormal quality about this book. There is a lot of unknowns and you’re constantly trying to figure out what the hell is going on. I loved the aspect of random people calling into a radio show with tales of the unexplainable, because some were stories and some seemed like the people were still inside their unexplainable event.

This was a weird one overall, but I enjoyed it!

This definitely wasn’t as good as I was expecting from other reviews. The writing was ineptly disjointed, and the female characters were essentially all just sexualized tropes. (The amount of sexualization all the time felt absolutely obnoxious by halfway through and seemed to serve no real purpose.) There was a huge problem of “show don’t tell” with the male protagonist especially, where the reader is constantly being told how special and skilled he is, but without much to back that up when instead the reader should be shown that. Some of the listeners’ stories included in the narrative were interesting but still felt clunky, and there weren’t many of them. Other than that, this book takes itself too seriously and wants to be more special than it is, unfortunately. I’d rather be actually captivated by a book and its characters/stories rather than told over and over that they’re captivating when they’re not…

Can someone explain what I just listened to?? This was the most confusing book. I liked the concept of people calling into a radio show and sharing their own ghost stories, but that was not the main plot after all.
The storytelling switches from first and third person and it's kind of disorienting.
I hated Joaquin's girlfriend in the beginning because she seemed to not understand that he was maybe a bit mentally unstable. He would constantly have out of body experiences and sees his dead best friend who criticizes Joaquin's life choices.
There's way too much happening in this book and it's too chaotic to try to put it all down here. I want to say so much more, and I really don't know how.

This is a book that has been on my TBR for years, and I’m glad I finally experienced it via audiobook. Not only to enjoy our favorite “daddy”’s voice, but because he is superb at capturing human emotion in a strange tale of loneliness and connection. I would listen to this again!
