As many others have said: the first few chapters are pretty useless to the rest of the narrative. So much so that I almost gave up on the book immediately. It made the story seem like a poorly constructed comic book. The genre? Vampire-erotica-FBI-Time-Travel-history-Mary-Sue thing.

Then, the main character steps back into time, the murder happens and I was hooked. I don't often read historical pieces, so the inaccuracies didn't bother me, instead I became fascinated by 'modern' profiling applied in the 19th century.

Yes, the story is a awkward at times and the characters somewhat 2D, but I found the plot flowed well (and quickly). In fact, I had a hard time setting down the book and going on outings (when I did, I spent most of it thinking about who the murderer might be).

I was a little put off by how poor the main character's FBI skills were (ex. fighting, adapting, and blending in), but I soon got over that because I was so ecstatic about finally having a strong female character who didn't need saving, spoke her mind, and did whatever she wanted (even in the 19th century). It was awesome.

The ending was a little weak as it's sort of a cliffhanger, but I was already planning to read the next book, so it didn't bother me too much.

So, yes, almost gave up on the book within a few chapters, but I'm glad I didn't.

this seemed like a very surface story following a plotline for the sake of plot. i enjoyed the ride in the beginning but as the turns started happening to further the plot along, and the forced love story came into play, i became more and more annoyed. would everyone truly be as accommodating to such a bold and brazen outsider? outlander influence aside, the idea is a fun one. the execution was not.

I really didn't enjoy this very much, despite the premise sounding so promising to me. I didn't love the characters, and found it hard to root for Kendra. I also found it hard to believe that society would accept the way she acted and spoke to people - they didn't just accept her, they fell all over her and took her opinions as gospel. The dialogue wasn't great either. It was a slog to get through.

I enjoyed this, but some of the writing wasn't that successful. I liked the main character. I think that most people would be terrible at blending into a different time period, and the things that she struggled with fit the character. The cast of suspects were good, and it did a good job of having evidence that could point to all of them. I don't think that the multiple POVs didn't work out that well, but it's kind of a staple. The romance had very little development, which I personally prefer. I'm here for the murder more than the love story, so it being a tiny side plot is a bonus. I wasn't even tempted to skip over those parts.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I read this book as part of the Big Library Read. The idea of a time travelling cop appealed to me. It was fun to keep guessing how the story would go back in time. However, it soon became a little obvious what was going to happen.
All in all though, it was a good read and I would recommend it to people who like historical detectives with a little romance thrown in.

A bit longer than I would like. But it seemed the right amount. It didnt feel like it had a lot of filler or anything. There are a few descriptive violent moments that I personally do not care to read, but overall it is a good book. I would have liked one last short chapter on what decision Kendra made after those few days she gave Alec before the full moon.

Tried to listen to this as an audiobook but only made it a few minutes. It sounds like it was recorded without a pop filter and it's impossible to listen to with earbuds. In order to hear everything, it had to be turned up so loud that the first syllable of every word is painful

At first I was disappointed in this book. The main character, Kendra, did not appeal to me. As I continued reading, I found other characters that more appealing to me. About half way through the book Kendra became more like able.
