Ok, look at that amazing cover if you are not already drooling over it. Yes, I understand. I also love Russian studs and their hot names and that's why I went for this one.
I liked the romance and the sex, they were good. But I disliked the main female character Erin, because she was too weak imo and her sister was just annoying. Since this is a novella, the lack of a good plot shouldn't surprise you, but I find some short stories to have much better storylines, so I was bored when it came to this one. However, I'm still planning on reading the next one.

I thought this was quite a fast-paced and interesting novella. It had an engaging plot and was decently written, for the most part. I liked both main characters, they had good personalities and I thought they had decent chemistry. Their relationship moves possibly a little fast, but it’s a novella, so that’s to be expected. I thought Ivan was particularly sweet towards her. I also liked the glimpses of other characters and I’d be interested to read more books about these characters at some point.

I thought that some of the writing needed tightening up - there were a few phrases repeated here and there that got a bit annoying. It wouldn’t have been so bad, but they were sort of stock phrases associated with poor writing, if that makes sense (tongues duelling, and so on.) I want to stress I don’t think this is a badly written book because it isn’t, I just thought it needed a good edit and some of those repetitive phrases changing.

Apart from that, it was a fairly decent novella. I probably wouldn’t reread it, but I thought it made a nice start to the series. I would recommend it if you want a quick novella with a protective hero based around organised crime.

Content Warnings:
SpoilerDrug use, violence, gun violence, organised crime.

This was deeply mediocre, made even worse by an audiobook narrator who sounded like she was begrudgingly reading a textbook to the class.

The couple have instalust in spite of no actual chemistry or personality traits, and after less than a day Erin is proclaiming “omg he’s special….he’s VuLneRaBle”. The sex is both paint-by-numbers and super cringey. There wasn’t even a strong mafia or cage fighting element to keep it interesting, and all of the action happens off page!

Maybe if I’d read this in 2013 as my first ever mafia romance I would have liked it more. By today’s standards it had all the flavour of unseasoned chicken.

Jokes on me, it is blunt.

I liked the love interest (finally!), and I did enjoy the heroine, because honestly, I relate to her being all like, "I'll just stand here as silently as possible and make myself invisible until someone else resolves this issue, thank you." But the plot was kinda vague, and the sex was okay at best. So yeah, the whole book was okay as well.

I'm currently reading the box set of the first 3 books in this series. So I thought I would give them each their own review.

Anyway, the first book in this series, is good. The main reason why it doesn't get 4/5 stars is because it's only 111 pages long, and I kinda sometimes felt that we were rushing through some of the things. That's why I was so happy, when I found out that the rest of the books in this series, are between 240 and 400 pages.
I personally like, when the you a good description on both the characters, the surroundings and other thing a book, and I don't mind if the book is really long because of that.

Anyway, the book was good, and you should read it.

This story was simple but bearable. The Russian angle was new to me, and managed to keep my interest, but the overall plot and writing style were a little generic. I'll probably read the next book if I have time because I want to read Dimitri's story.
