I DO NOT recommend this book. I had my own reasons for reading it, and I only gave it 2 stars because Updike is an amazing writer. The characters were interesting but the plot was disturbing.

I am just so glad Updike and the other ‘Johns’ (they are all John) are no longer held as a shining example of who to read and how to write. Middle age male authors of 1970ish with no clue about real women.
