This is the 'younger sibling', (if books could have siblings), of Alyssa Cole's thriller. There are also some elements of Rivers Solomon, and some other authors and stories that I've encountered. This story also helped me get over the disappointment that I had after watching a movie.
Why is it that in movies they pull away from the edge of the cliff just when things are getting good?

Iris Michele Rose - oh to be a big sister! And, also, why is it that best friends in books choose not to believe what they are being told? This seems to be a trope that I keep coming up against, and it makes me wonder.

One huge positive, the family dynamic that Brown portrayed. Iris' parents were involved both at home and in school. This was wonderful to see.

I'll be recommending this to young and old horror lovers. I only wish I had read it in the winter time instead of mid-fall.

A page turner. Part ghost story, part history lesson with a happy yet bittersweet ending. My nephew read this at school and I very much approve.

Creepy and atmospheric, this book superbly balanced middle grade horror with in-depth and educational discussions of segregation, racism, history, grief, family and friendship. Young or old, no matter your age, this book is an asset to any bookshelf.
