Marian Keyes is one of my favorite living character writers. She writes flawed, funny, frustrating, and often detestable behavior that had me wanting to scream. The only reason I felt this way was because I came to care for them so much. I'm sad to have finished with this family saga, it's the first book in a long time that made me teary-eyed. I can't wait to go through her backlist. Amy and Hugh felt so real, and the ensuing drama had stakes as I flipped the pages. If you can handle an emotional roller coaster and find marriage in trouble narratives interesting, I highly recommend. One of my 2022 favorites.

EDIT jan 2023 - i'm going through and reclassifying some reviews now that i've read more and sat on the books for a while.
I feel like maybe time passing has made me grumpier? But I just don't remember this book at all. So it loses half a star. sorry!
originally 4 stars

Marian keyes' writing is easy and fun to read, and I enjoyed this book a lot. It wasn't particularly deep or life changing, but despite the 660 pages, it was quick to read and I was invested in Amy's life and her choices.
However, I didn't like the epilogue, it seemed weird to add it on? It didn't really serve a purpose.
