Torn World is a science-fantasy setting where life, naturally, is quite different from what everyday life looks like on Earth. This story follows the life of two license makers in the known world's largest, and maybe only, country. Our two main characters are Bai and Ressa, two high-up employees at the empire's Licensing Office where you get approval for all the licenses you need to exist in the empire. We follow them as they get dragged into blackmail and murder, as well as romance that's close to star-crossed in quality. I do mean that in the original sense of the term.

My first advice to any future fellow readers of this book, is to read the warnings. This story has plenty of dark themes and it's best to not go in blind (unless you really want to, of course). The second thing is to keep in mind that this book consists of several short stories that happen in chronological order and generally contain the same characters. This might not sound so different from a book with chapters but the feel of it is different. Not bad different, just different. Be prepared for that or this book might throw you off.

All in all, an enjoyable read!
