Fabulous atmosphere!

Excellent narration of a story written in hauntingly beautiful prose. Truly a masterpiece of morality, community, and judgement, where paranoia plays a key role in thinning out the herd.

Although I've seen many adaptations of this story, I've never read the original--or any Washington Irving. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. It was well-written, funny and spooky, and the perfect October short story.

Slow

There is way too much unnecessary, I would not even call it build-up. Nothing happens in the story until 70% pic the way in (according to the percentage counter on my Kindle).

Second time reading. Gave it 1 star before. Still really unimpressed with the suggestions of what the story will be like due to the cover front and back.
