20% in the book is really good!
Book is finished & I cried at the end.
I was happy to find out this wasn't a smut filled book. It sure could have been - there where plenty of opportunities. It made me like this book all the more for not having smut.
Otherwise it was a typical story of not all the parts to a story being told and somehow it all works out. Despite the story being obvious in its direction, it kept me entertained. Mainly due to how Persephone was written. I just wanted to know how it would turn out for her & Dorian.

This was so slow to start. I had to force myself to finish it because it finally got decent in the last 5 chapters. Not bad, but I wouldn't read it again most likely.

This. Was. Awful.
Only read if you like watching train wrecks.
This story felt like it was written by a sixth grader. There weren't any rules established around this magic, making everything in the story totally random. There was no real arch. The author just gave us information that felt unrelated or like it came out of nowhere. The editor REALLY lacked in pushing this author to tie things together.
Also, do you ever pick up on a person using a single word a lot in their vocabulary, and then you can't stop focusing on the fact that they use it in almost every sentence? I've definitely heard people noticing this with "like" in that very Valley girl way. Well, this author liked to do this with corny similes and metaphors. On almost every page. It was really hard to read those without cringing after a while.
There was also no consistency in character development. Everyone seemed to do something outside of their established character at some point, making all of their personalities mush together into one blob of a person.
Anyway, don't waste your time. I'm not even sure I read a story. I don't understand how this got picked up or published. And I normally love a good witchy book, this just wasn't one of them. I have to believe the only reason it doesn't have a worse rating overall is because most people would just give up, or are just trying to be nice to the author.

Rather overwritten, breathless and overcomplicated. I gradually lost interest as the story seemed to wrap itself around itself more and more.

I couldn't get into the book. It plodded along disjointedley. None of the characters captured my imagination and it bored me, I kept re-reading the same pages as I kept losing interest, in the end it just felt like work so I quit.
