Much more fun than Lyra’s Oxford and gives a bit of a different angle.

I love this trilogy so it was nice to get a little back story on some of the characters.

Last read it in 2010, around the time when I started properly recording what books I read and when. It's longer than I remember.

Pullman's writing is sharp as ever. His world(s) are hard to stay away from! Looking forward to the new book this year.

it’s only not five stars because i want to reserve that for the main series. the world-building of the entirety of philip pullman’s writing in this series is so incredible that it was easy to sink straight into this, and iorek and lee are two of my favourite fictional characters. lee is so consistent - it makes complete sense that his slightly less sensible, headstrong, 24-year-old self becomes the man we see in the main series.
