I gave this books three but I’d like to say it’s like a 3.75 and is read the second one. It was fine. The book was fine.

Solid but forgettable. Something to pass the time. Run of the mill. Take away the love interest/romance and focus more on the murder mystery and I think it could be a really good book.

It had great framework but missed on building the characters. Took a lot of patience to finish this

I originally requested this eARC from Netgalley because someone said it was AMAZING and was raving about how great it was. I didn't realize it was a historical fiction/cozy mystery, both of which are genres I don't particularly enjoy.
My only real comments are the word "botany" is used far too much in the first chapter, and the first chapter is too long, it should have been split into 2 chapters. The second chapter is a bit long also. If I hadn't read the synopsis I would never have known that the book is supposed to be set in 1920, I would have just assumed it was a hoity-toity dinner party in London.
This one just isn't for me.

A cozy, intriguing and fun mystery!
Setting it in the 1920s made the story different and fun for me! It definitely add to the pressure Saffron, our main character, has to deal with as a woman working in a male dominated field. Her struggle was easily relatable and I was cheering for her the whole time.
Once or twice I was a bit throw off as to whose point of view we were reading from. But I caught up very quickly!
Reads very much like a Nancy Drew mystery or a Tommy and Tuppence adventure.
I can't wait for more Saffron mysteries in the future!
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy.

I thought it was really cute! And not a bad story, but it was predictable. The trope of miscommunication is also not really my bag, but if it’s yours rock on!
