I regret letting this book sit on my shelf for so long. It even took me several session to really get into the story. The main character, Selina, is not very likeable for most of the book but then you start uncovering the truth. And, it changes everything. So beautifully written.

3.5⭐️ rounded up. Two timelines (closer together than timelines typically are): one with Gatsby vibes, and the other The Secret Garden vibes.

Tear out my heart, why don’t you?
I’m not normally a fan of historical fiction, so I don’t remember what it was about the summary that made me purchase this four years ago. It was beautiful and sad.

“The Glittering Hour” is a Romeo and Juliet story told in the 1920s.

Selina is rich, Lawerence is poor and they are madly in love with each other, however, the challenges around them are too great to keep them together.

The book is told in two timelines, Selina’s in the 1920s and her daughter, Alice in the 30s.

Selina recounts her life through letters to Alice that include a treasure hunt so Alice can understand how she came into being.

Grey creates an exquisite atmosphere of the glamorous era and in equal measure, the soul crushing heartbreak through her lyrical writing style and I was utterly swept away.

Be prepared for this book to take you on an intense and emotional journey.

Cute concept, very well written, but frustrating.
I wish the story had been a little more compelling. A part of me almost wishes that instead of having two stories wide by side that it had been one story and an epilogue.
