I’m not exaggerating when I say I was screaming and kicking my feet over this book. It has so many of my favourite tropes and character dynamics. I couldn’t put it down and when I had to take breaks it was all I could think about.

First, it warmed the reader up to Narcissa very quickly. The groundwork was laid at the end of the Herbwitch Princess and this book capitalised on it. I won’t pretend the execution was perfect, but I warmed up to her quickly. And making Narcissa so likeable after all she’s done REALLY benefits the other characters in the book. Not only are they very likeable, but even if you get off on the wrong foot with one of them it doesn’t take long to look past it.

The amazing characters paved the way for an VERY sweet romance. Watching Bennet and Narcissa come together and fall for each other was so adorable and I was rooting for them the entire time. I was freaking out when they started to grow closer and have more intimate moments.

On top of that the world building!!! It really looked at the impact and consequences of the end of book one and considered how that would change the world. How would people react? What kind of magical tech would develop? And what could be done to level the playing field? It was so wonderful to read about and you could tell the author put real consideration into the world.

Extra bonus with BEAUTIFUL illustrations and actually understanding what corsets are and how they worker historically. Overall this was a DELIGHT of a book and I immediately bought to sequel novella the moment I finished it.

I never thought I would be able to capture the feeling of being twelve and thoroughly escaping into a good fantasy book again, but I’m so happy to be proven wrong.

If you grew up loving Ella Enchanted, Ever After, and the classic Barbie films PLEASEEEE read this!
