Can now say I have some new favourite quotes from this book. Seneca was a brilliant man, quite ahead of his time.

Didn’t really keep track of my fav letters but here’s a few I remembered to write down.

21: On the Renown Which My Writings May Bring You

28: On Travel as a Cure for Discontent

45: On Sophistical Argumentation

48: On Quibbling as Unworthy of the Philosopher

49: On the Shortness of Life

59: On Pleasure and Joy

Reading Seneca is like listening to a verbose grandfather who relays bits of history and gossip, anecdotes, criticism, and philosophy. Some have become so antiquated that you can’t help but rectify his views. Some have become irrelevant that you can’t help but doze off.

But there are moments when he spouts astute words and powerful rebukes. You begin to question life and death, vice and virtue, time and leisure. Then you realize he’s right.

For me, I found the latter category in the following chapters:

I. On Saving Time
II. On Discursiveness in Reading
XII. On Groundless Fears
XXVIII. On Travel as a Cure for Discontent
LVII. On the Trials of Travel
XCIV. On the Value of Advice
XCIX. On the Consolation of the Bereaved
CI. On the Futility of Planning Ahead
CIII. On the Dangers of Association with Our Fellow-Men
CV. On Facing the World with Confidence
CVII. On Obedience to the Universal Will
CXV. On the Superficial Blessings
CXVI. On Self-Control
CXXIII. On the Conflict between Pleasure and Virtue
