DNF: I got bored by 30%. What was the obsession with this girls boobs? They were mentioned like 100 times in just a few chapters. Once the guy got back from London the girls’ game shifted and it became kinda weird. Wasn’t really for me.

** Some Spoilers ** I have mixed feelings about this book. The beginning felt very YA and not in a good way. Olivia’s character is sort of innocent and naïve. But at the same time, she was very manipulative with Beast. She paid Pip to drop a spider on her so Beast would grab her breast because the book gave her the idea, or I think that was her plan. It was a bit confusing and honestly I was skimming by that point. I’m not exactly sure how old these people are supposed to be, but the seemed very middle school at points. The whole Book of Love plot got very repetitive and tiresome. The constant use of Beast and Goose also got old quickly. I know they were meant as cute childhood nicknames, but they didn’t seem that cute to me. I didn’t hate the book, even thought at the 65% mark I almost DNF’d it. I found myself skimming and skipping ahead several times. The ending got better once they got engaged and things stated happening. Prinny’s request for consent was ultra icky. The last third of the book saved it for me or I would have given it 2 stars. It is fundamentally a sweet love story between childhood friend’s who are both a bit broken. I can see why it appeals to some readers. I was more in the what the f is happening, is this even good camp. I asked myself that multiple times in the first half.
Moderate: Violence, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Blood

The Look of Love is the first installment in the Book of Love series. A series of books combining swoon-worthy romances and lighthearted humor.
I won't keep this review long since there isn't much to say about it and the story is very simple.
Lady Olivia Gosling finds or let's say is hit in the head twice by an old book titled The Book of Love in a musty bookshop. She believes that this book may have the answers to attract other suitors than the one her awful guardian is planning to marry her off to.
And who is a better target to experiment on than her childhood friend, the handsome Alexander Beastling, the Duke of Hartford.
For surely if she managed to make a Duke fall in love with her, she can make any man she chooses do the same.
It's a cute read of two friends although there is some sort of an age gap between them but their friendship is sweet.
What I adore about Meara Platt's books is the humor she twines with the romance. I always know I'll have a good laugh while reading any of her books.
Unfortunately, the humor was not colorful enough to hide the dullness of the characters. I liked them but I did not find them interesting nor was I invested in their romance.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I read book 4 (I know I started the series out of order) but I liked that one enough to give this series a chance and I also adored the Farthingales.

Beautifully sweet story. Exactly what I needed for an emotionally rough week.
Having read numerous later editions of the Book of Love series, it was nice to come back to the beginning. Olivia getting goosed by the book falling on her head was a numerous start for this mystical book. I love a good childhood lovers story, the slow burn of friends to lovers. Watching the hero gradually start to view his childhood friend as something more, his feelings inevitably surprising him. Goose was so patient with Beast, content to be his friend until he falls headlong into love. Meara Platt writes an absolutely delightful, fluttering tale of love and whimsy. I spent most of this book with fluttering butterflies in my chest. The characters are developed so you can’t help but love them and feel instantly bonded to this group and excited for all the stories to come. The audio is done with a soft pleasant voice, with delightful inflections. I was hooked from the start.
