The writing is fairly mediocre throughout, with none of the stories worthy of special mention. That can perhaps be overlooked, depending on how much you're a fan of the genre and what you're expecting out of the book. But the part that I couldn't get past was how committed the book was to the space-as-ocean metaphor. Apparently, stories were not eligible for inclusion unless they used nineteenth century nautical jargon, or had pirates, or buried treasure.

If the intersection between sci-fi and pirate stories is your niche, then snap this one up, because I'm not aware of any other compilation like it. But otherwise, there's not much to recommend it.

Most of the stories were pretty lack luster.
