This was fun. Early on I thought it was trying a little too hard to be funny, but by the end I was really enjoying it.

Jim's brother Jack was taken during the Milk Carton epidemic, which Jim knows was led by trolls. Flash forward about twenty years to meet Jim Jr., who is living under the restrictive rule of his father. Jim's father tries to protect him from things that go bump in the night, but Jim doesn't believe in his father's made up garbage. Until, one day, Jim looks into the dark and finds something waiting. Pulled into a battle between good trolls and bad, Jim takes up his birthright to become a trollhunter.
The descriptions of the trolls was absolutely creepy and awesome. Any young teenage boy would back this horror story. Combine that with action, adventure, and weaponry and you have a great book. I loved the pace and the descriptions.

My daughter & I read this after watching most of the animated television show. I knew it would be a different story and that Del Toro was behind both. We really like the show and had high hopes for the book. Definitely done high points in the book; interesting set up, some nice writing in the first half, some imaginative creatures. The story really dissolved in the second half and was a bit of a drag to get through. It’s a YA book that goes overboard in being gross and has some inappropriate language and situations that were really unnecessary to the story.

Jim Sturges Jr has grown up with his overprotective dad ; his dad became afraid of the world after his brother Jack was taken by "Something" while they were out on playing 45 years ago. Jim noticing weird things around town such as something moving around the locker room when the lights go out.
The Trollhunters novel is different and similar to the tv show in a lot of ways ; the changes are mainly the names of characters and items. Lot of things were changed and added to make the tv show more interesting and allow for the story to be stretched out , for example Jim's last name is changed to lake and he lives with his mom instead of his dad. Both versions of Trollhunters are amazing on their own ways and I would suggest the book to anyone how enjoyed the tv show.
Guillermo del Toro is incredible at making characters that are interesting and keeping the reader invested in the story by using a steady pace and describing details to help imagine what the people, trolls, and locations.

Bueno, a otra cosa mariposa.

This is one of these reviews that are difficult to write. The writing is first rate and the dialogue rather amusing. I can easily see this book being made into a movie with very little changes but the cinematic style of the writing just left me cold.
Now I do believe that TROLLHUNTERS would really catch the attention of its intended audience which is young adults, especially boys between eight to thirteen. It is full of adventure and close calls that will take them on a wild ride from the very start to the conclusion.
