Kind of a middle of the road book for me. It's a pretty basic hopeless crush on a straight guy that realises he's not actually straight story.

I think my major problem is that the blurb on this one does not connect with the story AT ALL. "When I first met Whit, I couldn’t get away from him fast enough. He’s a hockey player, and I hate everything to do with the sport that once broke my heart." Rein doesn't like Whitt for like 3 chapters max - the hockey thing ends up being a big part of the story, but this blurb makes it sound more like an enemies-to-friends to lovers when Rein gets over "disliking" Whitt in 3 seconds flat. "But I can’t help feeling sorry for the guy. He’s newly out and desperate to meet someone, but his eagerness seems to scare potential hook-ups away. Agreeing to be his wingman should’ve been simple. Watching him flirt with other guys made things complicated." I didn't really see much eagerness, and I would argue Rein never actually did any wingman-ing. Whitt just sits at the bar Rein works at, talks to Rein when he has a break, and then the two of the go home to Rein's place and they hang out. It feels like the author was giving the prompt to write a wingman story and attempted it, but ended up going in a very different direction, and the concept should have just been written out of the blurb from the get go.

Rainn and Whit are the perfect mix of grumpiness and sunshine. Rainn was stuck in a rut prior to meeting Whit and becoming his wingman. Whit was stuck in how to date and pick up men. A very straight Rainn soon fell for a very gay Whit and fireworks exploded for their very sweet happily ever after. I love that even though every book is written by a different author, it's the same world and references the same characters.

Book 3 in the multi author shared world Vino & Veritas series.

Whit is a newly out and proud college Hockey player who is determined not to still be a virgin by his 22nd birthday, so he goes to the new-ish inclusive bar Vino & Veritas where he meets bar tender Rainn, now Rainn had a promising hockey career once upon a time but due to injury had to leave that dream behind and has been stagnant in his life since so the first meeting between these two doesn't go smoothly because of Rainns resentment for losing his dream. They quickly become friends, and Whit enlists Rainn as his wingman in trying to find someone to lose his virginity with. However, it is like the blind leading the blind as Rainn has zero clue about same sex encounters as he is straight, which is super inconvenient for Whit and the crush he is developing.

This was a low angst cutesy read that has some good banter, humour & spice. I liked both Whit & Rainns characters and the development of the romantic aspect between them was good, however the physical aspect occurring felt abrupt as we went from a slow-ish build to bam they were hopping on the good foot and doing the bad thing and I would have personally preferred a slower exploration of that between them instead it felt like the author was just ticking off points on a list one after the other. I listened to the Audiobook on Everand as part of my subscription and I really enjoyed Tim Paige & Iggy Toma's perfomances, these are two of my favourites for books like this as I think their voices and performances work well together. 🌶🌶

Rainn played college hockey and was on his way to the NHL when he suffered a career ending injury. He’s had nothing to do with hockey since, and now works in a bar. Whit plays college hockey but his goal is to become a dairy farmer, something Rainn can’t understand. But before they get to that point in the story, there’s the little storyline of Rwinn being straight, Whit being gay, and Whit wanting to lose his virginity by his 22nd birthday. He’s never even been kissed by a man. Rainn agrees to be Whit’s wingman, but ends up being his first kiss. And more. But do they have a future when their attitudes about their futures aren’t the same?
***
Whit is a sweet guy. Rainn has the bigger character arc and the most growth. They’re both likable.
