3.5/5; read in single issues.

Not as good as Batman Eternal, unfortunately, but still fairly enjoyable. I think it might be better if read in a single sitting, but I read it (mostly) week-to-week. The story was intriguing, it was just the execution that wasn't always there. What I especially loved was the focus on Spoiler, Harper Row, and Cassandra Cain. The pacing was good, and it will be interesting to re-read it, as I think I might like it more the second time around (and read in larger chunks).

I'm done with the whole "Mother" thing. It wasn't a strong enough plot to carry over as many issues as it did. I was also expecting more when Grayson and Bertinelli got brain zapped, or whatever. It was really unclear what happened there... But it was action-y enough and had enough Robin banter to be entertaining.

It was a good graphic novel. I loved the end. It was the action and brotherly love I paid for. The last page was actually my favorite. the only reason I gave it 3 stars was because at times in the middle of the story it was either hard to keep things straight or boring. Other than that it was a great addition to my comic collection. Would recommend to any Robin/batman fans.

  • Solid story, wrapped up nicely.
  • Extended batfam interactions that feel mostly in character for nu52. Really nice to get more Steph and Cass in particular.
  • Damian showed up with zero context for where he's been, but he did give a great Robin pep-talk so I'll allow it.
  • It did bother me that
Spoilerthe icthys signal affected everyone under 20 the first time, but for the big battle it was only younger kids, with no explanation as to why except that it would obviously impact the plot if half the heroes were incapacitated. Also, pretty sure Damian should still be in that age range anyway
  • Now I want to read more Midnighter because scary gay batman seems very cool

The finish of this two-volume arc was really impressive. I liked how the story came together, and I liked seeing all of the characters show up. I felt like the characters had more of their individual personalities in the second volume than in the first volume. High action, high emotion, great plot. This story is one to read again.

Even better than the first one, still wish we got more of Jason Todd but I have a newly cemented love for Tim Drake so I'll take what I can get.

For years now, I've been wanting more focus on Harper Row, more integration into the Batfamily. But not like this - not by profoundly insulting my intelligence.

I almost threw the issue where it's revealed that Harper was supposed to be the perfect Robin across the room. In fact, I may still do that. In that single moment, I related to Alan Moore than I ever have before; specifically, his comments that the industry is filled with fanboys who don't know how to write.

Dick engineered to be a Talon? Yeah, I can accept that (probably because it was written with skill). I heard in RHATO that the writer tried to make Jason engineered to be a Robin. Maybe it was Tim? I'm not sure, it wasn't a book I was reading, but I remember thinking it was fucking stupid.

So on top of Dick and whichever other Robin, here's Harper with an even more contrived plot. No thanks. Oh, and inconsistent art teams, of which only one was quality (I think it was Blanco).

I bumped it up to two stars for Genevieve Valentine's contribution to writing duties on a few issues. May somebody recognize her writing talent, for she can actually write her way out of a box.
