So I plowed through this, staying up late for just one more chapter... I LOVED this book! So much fun, so funny, great characters and Jas was hilarious with her life lessons and superpowers. The out of book asides got annoying after a while, but not enough to deter from how absolutely delightful the rest of the book was. I can't wait to read the next one - and a few adult books by this author. Seriously good stuff, if you like YA or funny chick lit/mysteries, this one is a must-read.

A good 3.5 stars - a reread from forever ago, and still good despite some small issues I had for it.

Jas is a bit of a mess. She is a top a student who is interested in solving crimes. The problem is her dad, or the Thwarter, wants nothing to do with that. Yet Jas keeps stumbling onto cases. Or maybe it's more apt to say the pounce on her. Like when one a family vacation to Vegas when a large cat lands on Jas chest and then a little boy tells her to run with the cat. This pulls her into a celebrity murder case full of kidnapping, threatening notes and possible boyfriend material.
Jaffe brings a sense of zaniness and humour to Jas. She is the Calamity Nancy Drew. This makes her ten times more charming than the famous literary heroine. The book is jazzed up by the running commentary between Jas and her friends in the form of footnotes at the bottom of the page. This makes the story telling a little frenetic, but it would appeal to the adolescent female reader.
Fun read. Not going to change your life, but fun.

This book was a lot better than I expected it to be! When I grabbed it from the paperbacks shelf, I was anticipating a breezy, mindless read. (I like those very much nowadays) It was a mystery, and very good. I was Not expecting the ending!

Is there anyone else out there that has a book they absolutely adore just for the sake of the fact it was the first book they fell in love with. Bad kitty is that one for me.
I got my hands on this duology 12 years ago when borders was closing down when I was 11 years old and ever since then, whenever I’m in a not so great mood I always reach for them. The nostalgia makes me feel like a child and whilst the amateur crime-solver Jasmine isn’t in the range of an Agatha Christie detective and even though I’ve read it more than a dozen times it still brings me to laugh whenever I sit down to read it.
It’s a book that definitely should not be taken seriously but will honestly make you laugh at the exploits of the main character and her ‘superpower’ of being a cat and trouble magnet.
