I did like this more than the first two in the sense that the first two had a lot more incest and rape. Book 2 could have ended the series as a duology, but meeting Ash is interesting, so I’m glad I did read this. The ending is a bit anticlimactic and a bit open ended. I don't know if Rice wrote another story extending on how this ends.

With this being the finale of such a great series, I guess I expected just a bit more. In the previous book, Lasher, Mona was a very interesting character and very likeable. However, once she got the legacy and became a 'woman', she became a thoroughly unlikeable character. I didn't enjoy the start of the book, I thought Tommy and Marklin were completely unneccessary. However the middle was quite good. Ash comes off as such a great character, we feel such empathy for him. The actual ending left me feeling a bit flat. It seemed to be built up for so much more.

Overall, I loved this series. The Witching Hour was fantastic, Lasher was pretty good and this one was about average.

If I'm being completely honest, this was a DNF at 2/3rds of the way through.

Beautiful writing, but beyond dark. Disturbed and hopeless. If I even tried to go on, I know I'd be dragged to a place I don't need or want to go.

The fact that it placed Lasher before The Witching Hour made for a confusing, non-chronological experience. But considering how progressively twisted the content becomes just from Witching Hour to Lasher, I don't care to find out how badly the downward spiral continues. On top of that, any emotional investment I could have had in the characters just wasn't there. The characters themselves didn't feel emotionally connected to each other, and so it was difficult to care about anything that happened to them.

I was expecting Urban Fantasy and Horror, but the rampant incest, pedophilia, and demon erotica were all WAY too much. "I need a holy water chaser and a soak in a vat of bleach" too much.

This is the third of the Mayfair Witch books, and it wasn't quite what the other two were.

I think I read this whole series in high school...but this novel was the most unfamiliar to me as I listened to the narrative. I enjoyed the new characters and again the huge scope Rice takes on in this world she has created. I felt the ending left a little to be desired, but on the whole, it was satisfying.
