This book took me by storm!

See what I did there?.......Don't worry, I'll show myself out.

In all honesty, this turned out to be quite the little hidden gem. I am not entirely sure why I don't hear more people talk about this, but it was possibly one of the most solid YA Fantasy books that I have read recently.

The magic system was unique and fascinating, the political intrigue was...intriguing (still showing myself out), the pacing was balanced, each individual character was important and distinguishable, and it was just an enjoyable plot that does a great job of providing context and history while still leaving you wanting more.

I am definitely going to be continuing with the sequel!

Roar reminds me why I love YA fantasy so much. I devoured this book and loved every minute of it. I can't wait for the next book. I need know its name. I have a hardback. This cover is gorgeous. The texture and shine to certain parts has me admiring it constantly.

I love this book. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that there was zero use of contractions which really stood out to me in the audio. I don't remember it at all in the book. Regardless, I love this story and can't wait to read Rage!

I think this is a classic: "it's not the book, it's me".

So I read almost half of this book... And It's just not sticking with me. I started it like a month back.

It's not special, it's not original, I don't want to continue reading this book. I really couldn't care less what will happen. Even though this book isn't "bad".

So DNF at 50%, for now.

Cora Carmack won me over with her debut novel [b:Losing It|16034964|Losing It (Losing It, #1)|Cora Carmack|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1348459319s/16034964.jpg|21807237]. It was a fun and quirky love story. But after that, her next novels never hit that right chord with me.
When I saw that Cora Carmack wrote a fantasy novel, I thought, what the hell, I'll give it a chance. I hoped it won't suffer from a lot of YA problems, since she used to be a new adult author.

Likes:
+ Innovative idea. First time for me to encounter storms that are sentient.
"... beasts of the sky - where nature and unnatural met and merged..."
It was a great idea, and I liked how Cora Carmack slowly built up and revealed the history and mystery behind storms.
+ Multiple POVs I liked that we didn't get one or two point of views, but more. It really helped us getter better grab on the story when viewed from multiple angles.
+ Interesting side-characters. For me, they were the heart and real heros of the story. I liked them all much more than hero and heroine. They were interesting and diverse.

Dislikes:
- The hint of a love triangle. Heroine falls for boy1 and then when she is disappointed in him jumps to boy2. The switch of attraction and interest was so sudden that it gave of a love triangle vibe to me. I am not sure if author planned this or is it just me. At least the bad-love-triangle tension didn't last long.
- Immature behavior. Now my husband would say to me: "That's what you get when you read young adult novels.' Aurora, the heroine, is a sheltered and pampered princess. She is very naive and not familiar with the real status of her country. All of her decisions are very impulsive and immature. And the worst part is, that she does not own them, but instead she always hide behind the excuse how she is doing it for her country/people.
SpoilerFun fact: Royalty does not choose whom to marry. They marry for good of their country. And they do not get to run away from home. That's the stuff of fairy tales.

In the end, Roar will probably be a big hit. I think ya fantasy fans will be swept away with romance and kick-ass heroine and will probably not be bothered by the things that annoyed me.
