Perfection - the illustrations are awesome, the text is simple and straightforward, the Granny is hilarious, and the little grandson is just sneaky enough to be adorable, without being "bad" and setting a bad example for my preschoolers at story time. Highly recommended!!

Kate Lum has a genius for depicting the satisfaction of a job well-done, and this lively and hilarious story is a favorite with my woodworking mother-in-law and her grandchildren.
Little Patrick is spending the night at Granny's... "But, Granny," he says "I don't HAVE a bed here." "WHAT?" cries Granny, and she rushes off to cut down a tree, saw the logs, measure, drill, and nail together a bed. But... Patrick does not have a blanket. Appalled, she's off to the sheep to get wool. A pillow? She raids the distraught hens for feathers.. Teddy bear?...you get the idea. The relentlessly energetic Granny, in her sweet floral outfit, blue-rinsed ringlets neatly in place, purse on her arm throughout is a great stereotype buster. Funny and sweet.

Great for storytime, solid length, fun interaction with the kids, and great pictures. Not a fabulous plot though.

Funny and wacky, this picture book with great illustrations tells the unusual bedtime story of Patrick's night sleeping at Granny's.

Perfect for kids who hate bedtime. Patrick, the child in this story, tries to make excuses about why he can't go to bed. Will his grandma be able to come up with the right stuff to help Patrick go to bed?
