The idea was interesting, but I couldn’t connect with the writing. Each chapter ended with a weird “cliffhanger”, but they didn’t make me want to read more… they wanted to make me read less. Also… it took FOREVER to get to any actual conflict/plot that wasn’t a flashback. It became quite dull and tedious.

i can't believe this book!!!! i'd write the whole review in caps if it wasn't such a pain to read. also can someone please explain to me why writing reviews for fav books is so much harder than regular/negative reviews?
i absolutely loved this book. it was so well written and the characters were developed nicely. no scene felt like a filler and everything had a purpose. the three main characters (alfie, aidan and roxy) were an absolute pleasure to read about. i don't think there's a single thing that i disliked about the characters. although, i must admit, the cat is my absolute fav and i'm so glad it's okay. i had some worries when i first started reading the book.

Хороша історія про хлопчика, який прожив 1000 років, і все, чого він хоче – щоб вічність нарешті закінчилась.
Алфі щасливо (чи не зовсім) жив останні 10 століть разом із своєю мамою та кішкою, на ім’я Біффа, переховуючись від цікавих очей та постійно змінюючи місце проживання задля власної безпеки. У 21 столітті приховувати безсмертя набагаааааато складніше, адже існують відеокамери, ID, всілякі реєстри, тож хлопчик з мамою живуть у невеликому будинку в лісі, лише інколи виходячи з дому за покупками. У них було мирне життя, поки його не зруйнувала пожежа.
У дім біля узлісся переїжджає 11-річний Ейден, який знайомиться з дивною сусідською дівчинкою, на ім’я Роксі, яка стверджує, що в лісовому будинку мешкає відьма. Її здогадки могли б залишатися здогадками, якби у ніч страшної пожежі до Роксі в гараж приходить дуже блідий хлопчина з втомленими очима, який просить лише 1) допомогти йому; 2) нікому не казати про його місце перебування.
Так починається історія дружби трьох молодих людей, вона наповнена смішними, хвилюючими та трохи дивними моментами.
Я читала багато книг з героями, які живуть набагато довше ніж звичайні люди (у фентезійних світах можливо все, так!), однак історія Алфі відрізняється. Він на 1000 років застряг у тілі 11-річного хлопчика і найбільш за все хоче мати змогу вирости, закінчити школу, працювати, створити сім’ю. Герой не насолоджується вічністю, відчуває себе самотнім, хоче знайти справжнього друга.
Книга транслює думки двох друзів-підлітків, котрі, однак, часто повертаються до важливих тем та наштовхують читачів на роздуми.

A fabulous middle-grade book of friendship, which is full of adventure, tinged with sadness but contains a bucketload of hope.

I was expecting something different, but this was still a good read. Once I started reading it was difficult to stop - all the characters were amazing and so likeable (especially biffa).
The climatic end was everything I wanted. It was easy to forget its a children's novel - but 100% worth the read for any adult.
For teachers: warnings of death, theft, slight bullying and hints at swearing.
Topics that you could link this to: history, Anglo saxon, Charles dickens. Though the history mentioned is stated to be inaccurate - still a nice hook to grt children interested in a history topic.

Het zoog. Hard.
Ik had gehoopt dat het over een 1000 jaar oude 'man' zou gaan in een lichaam van een jongen (dus dat hij mentaal wel ouder zou worden), maar dat was dus niet het geval.
Het is in de ik-vorm geschreven, alleen verschilt het per hoofdstuk wil die persoon is, en dat wordt niet aangegeven.
Al met al vond ik het tijdverspilling.
