An enjoyable read hampered by bad pacing and flat side-characters.

"The second in the classic Phryne Fisher series from Kerry Greenwood, featuring the irresistible heroine Phryne. Whether she's foiling kidnappers, seducing beautiful young men or simply deciding what to wear for dinner, Phryne handles everything with her inimitable panache and flair.

Danger, excitement and love--this is how the glamorous Phryne Fisher is determined to live her life in her second enticing adventure.

Walking the wings of a Tiger Moth plane in full flight ought to be enough excitement for most people, but not Phryne Fisher, amateur detective, woman of mystery, as delectable as the finest chocolate and as sharp as razor blades.

In this, the second Phryne Fisher mystery, the 1920s' most talented and glamorous detective flies even higher, handling a murder, a kidnapping and the usual array of beautiful young men with style and consummate ease--and all before it's time to adjourn to the Queenscliff Hotel for breakfast. Whether she's flying planes, clearing a friend of homicide charges or saving a child from kidnapping, she handles everything with the same dash and elan with which she drives her red Hispano-Suiza." (From Amazon)

I really enjoyed the follow up to Cocaine Blues. Phryne Fisher is a great heroine with a great group of secondary characters that interesting to get to know and with quirks that keep you wanting more. The plot is a great balance of gritty and light. I am going straight into book three as I am really enjoying the series.

I loved the tv series so much and I wanted to like this book, but the story is bland, the writing is only so-so, and Phryne is annoying; she's sooo clever, sooo sexy, everyone is fawning over her, yada yada yada....

There are 2 cases here, a murder and a child kidnapping. To make the book full, i guess.

Now that i'm currently bingeing the tv show, reading this i could see that this could be shorter. Bc this series love to narrate the leisurely times in between plot points, usually about Phryne's getting ready, eating, sleeping, and other self care things which i love. But in this book the author also fill in the time when they were waiting for something, like what Phryne and other characters did while waiting, what they talked about. I think it's to establish Miss Fisher's character too, just like her self care things. but that's it. I think that part could have been cut out.

Also i realized that this book can managed to be spicier than tv, although all sex scenes are not on the page, but some of the foreplays are in it, and i think it's just right.
