This was... Alright? I'm not a non fiction girlie but, as someone with no friends, I was curious to read about the other side of things!
Things I liked: getting other's perspectives on friendship. The facts. I did learn some things from this book, and will re-evaluate how I work in friendships!
What was meh: it was quite repetitive at points. She mentioned many times about her fertility struggles impacting friendship, which already got repetitive, and then had an entire chapter. It also felt self indulgent and pretentious at points? Quite a few needlessly 'fancy', complicated words. Whilst she acknowledged some of her flaws, like not setting boundaries, there were points where I knew we were only getting her POV. it feels weird that the 'bad' friends have no way of explaining their side, and she didn't acknowledge any of her own faults in these friendships, other than the one. So parts felt one sided. There were also two points in the book where I thought she sounded quite judgemental; you don't know these people anymore, people grow, so why are you assuming they're miserable and awful still?
Whilst I generally liked the writing style, sometimes it whipped between being colloquial and then formal with statistics.
All in all, I think I'd recommend this book, it was interesting. But longer than necessary.
