This was an exceptionally detailed memoir about Thomas Geve's time in three concentration camps. I have read several similar books, and this one was by far the one that captured the daily struggles and issues in the most detail.
As a historical account, it is exceptional. Though it does record some of the truly horrific events of the concentration camps, some I'd not heard described before in other survivor memories, and which are almost impossible to comprehend, I didn't feel that this memoir had an emotional impact beyond being horrfied. I'm trying hard to make this not sound like a criticism.
Essentially, if you want an amazingly detailed record of life in concentration camps, this is the book for you. If you want a memoir that injects emotion behind the retelling, then you won't find it.

Thank you for an ARC (audio) of this book in exchange for my honest opinion!
I have to say that I would have preferred to read the ebook of this one to see if there were any illustrations. The title suggests that there would be illustrations. Since I only listened to the audio, this was "simply" another autobiography/memoir. Don't get me wrong, this was a compelling books, but I felt it was missing a connection to the title.
