Each of the Heechee novels so far has had its own narrative style.

That which was used in Heechee Rendezvous was the least effective, in my opinion.

Likewise, the story didn't have much of a payoff, seeming to be more focused on possibilities of a future sequel. Then again, the conclusions were not the strong points of the other novels either.

Enjoyable enough, doesn't quite live up to the previous two novels.

The 3rd book we finally close up all the original story arcs from Gateway.

An interesting book, although I think it is starting to get a little boring and repetitive. I'll keep reading though, having invested the time to read 3 so far.

A definite improvement over the second book in the series. The hard-SF aspects are explored well, with a focus on the mysteries of the Heechee, AIs, dark matter, and consciousness, all without the troublesome themes of the prior book.
