This was an awesome book. The story was capturing and you found yourself feeling what the main character is feeling. Throughout this book sometimes I would get mad at the main character because of her decisions and sometimes I would cheer for her. This book really captures you and makes you feel a lot of things.

Reread April 28th, 2019
This has always been a favorite library read of mine. It goes in directions where other books don't, and the characters have to make their beds and lie in them, such as when
SpoilerJessica chooses Jake. It's painful, but a brave thing for Fantaskey to do.
It's funny, and I love Lucius's letters. It's also dark, and dramatic. It would make an excellent movie. I'm thinking I might reread the sequel as well (it's a duology). Anyway, this is a lovely YA read about dark, dramatic, sarcastic, relatable vampires. 4.5 stars.

Eh. I need to move away from the YA genre sometimes. Unless I can find something in the middle of that and adult. I don't always like adult, and I can't stand some YA. Boo. Anyway, this one was entertaining but dramatic and a little ridiculous. It was like Princess Diaries meets Marked/Twilight. Not great, predictable, happy ending. Wahoo.

this book was so disappointing. first of all, the title makes no sense. this is in no way shape or form, a guide. and there’s practically no dating at all. it goes from jessica hating this weirdo from romania to all of a sudden being completely in love with him and wishing desperately to leave everything she has every known to go to some foreign country where she doesn’t even speak the language so she can rule them. her change of heart came out of nowhere in my opinion. every single character started to really get on my nerves one-third in and i hated everyone by the end. i stopped reading and just skimmed the last 35% of the book because i just did not care anymore.

1/10/2010 review of the 26/05/2011 : The first part of this book is really fun, looking Jessica trying to get rid of Lucius and discover the vampire customs is priceless (The Lucius's letters craks me up!). The second part is more emotional, it didn't please me as much, a bit to predictable. It's a very good book anyway and I can't wait january 2012 for the next one !

Relecture 23/9/18 : Loved the first part and the letters. It’s original and funny. The second half of the book is more conventional and predictable. Jessica was not enough developed and became annoying at time with overconfidence and body shaming thin girls. The love story between them is not very well developed and turn to be an insta love despite the first half of the book ... Not a bad read anyway.

This book is amazing. I feel in love with the characters and stayed up half the night trying to finish it. It left me wanting more. I've read many Vampire books and this is one of the best. I truly felt as if I was Jessica when she had endured everything from Lucius to school bullies. I was ecstatic to find out that Beth Fantaskey is working on a sequel and that there Jessica and Lucius's wedding story on her website. Anyone who loves romance and vampires should not be disppointed.

I liked the break from the gender norms throughout, and the plot was interesting, but the ending left a weird taste in my mouth.

The characters didn't feel solid in their foundation which made their decisions seem unrealistic. The story felt generic. I sped it up towards the end because I was tired of this book.

JESSICA'S GUIDE TO DATING ON THE DARK SIDE was a beautiful story about a girl who's past and her real parent's past she is unsure about, but finds out that not only is she a princess, but she is a vampire princess, and her fiance has come to claim her. This was a quick read and I could not put it down. I really hope to find more of these stories about vampire princess/prince. They really interest me. In this story there is romance, suspense, betrayal, the longing to find out who you really are. This is a must-read for anyone looking for a teen-vampire book.

"Princess. . . He honestly thinks I'm a vampire princess. . . . The strange, almost pleasurable, sensation I'd felt when he'd brushed my cheek was forgotten as reality hit me again. Lucius Vladescu was a lunatic."

I liked that we got to see the point of view of both Jessica and Lucius. It gave me a real inside look at the person Lucius is. Jessica and Lucius have both had a very different life. I felt that Jessica had it easy being able to live as a normal teenager where everything was harder on Lucius, he had so many expectations and had to be very strong since he was a child. Jessica has a hard time accepting all of this drama, but given time I think she realizes just how real how of this really is, her being a vampire princess.

There is a short story on Beth Fantaskey's website and there is a rumor going around that a second book will be released in the fall of 2011 titled, Jessica's Guide to Ruling on the Dark Side. I hope that we get this book soon, I am excited to read the sequel.
