This is a raw and gripping story that follows Precious as she faces unimaginable challenges and strives for a better life. It's a book that tackles tough topics, it has a lot of tough parts, and the language was extremely foul. But this was a very good book, I’ve watched the film a while ago and I could easily remember the parts from the movie while reading the book.

This book was not an enjoyable read. It was a relatively quick short read so I finished it. It was a depressing read. It has so much unending trauma rape, incest, physical abuse, intellectual disability, physical abuse, racism, colourism, murder, homophobia and HIV/AIDS, homelessness . It was written in the style of an illiterate young woman who could not learn due to all the difficulties in her life but at the end of the book she is improving. This book reminded me of the fake book that Percival Everett wrote in Erasure, it’s just all focused on black pain and trauma. Do not recommend.
