This book is no regular romance; the characters are intelligent and reflective, their thoughts are like poetry, it made this book of words fly by so fast. The ending was heartbreaking yet lovely. Everything that happened felt intensional, i was grateful for that. The quotes I got from this book are real tear jerkers/ worthy of being in a philosophers paper. I think I’ll read this again.

I can't remember what triggered it but something made me really curious about re-reading this. It was one of my favourite books when I first read it in 2012 and I was pleased to find I still enjoyed it 12 years later. It's not the kind of book I'd pick up for the first time now, so some of my enjoyment came from nostalgia but there were still lots of elements I liked. For a sad book, it's funnier than I remembered. I felt more attached to the characters than I was expecting and still enjoyed Green's writing style.

I don't think the story was anything special but the set-up was unique. In comparison to other books that I typically read, especially during the time of my life where I read this book, this book was much more serious, solemn and mature. This might have been my first book I read about a protagonist facing a terminal disease.

The pacing for the book was a bit off too and there didn't seem to be a clear plot. I read the entire book while sitting on the toilet, in one go.

Another thing that ruined the book for me months and years after reading it was thinking about how corny the cult following was for this book. People had iphone5c cases with "Ok? Ok." and "It's just a metaphor" on it and I genuinely feel these external situations that aren't the book's fault literally worsened my enjoyment of the novel. Some novels are forgettable, well this one made me want to forget it.
