I liked it. It was good, it was sad it was average, predictable, sweet and heartbreaking. I thought this was going to be something else when I went into it. But alas, it had vibes and the perfect balance between the heartbreaking and the heart warming. You have to go into a book about terminal illness expecting certain things and nothing in this book veered away from those expectations for me. I agree with my friend who said it was quite basic and yet I feel I enjoyed it for what is was. It reminded me a lot of All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven which I also liked. I just like these books where nothing remarkable happens. Just regular people living their lives. 

I had a good time but I probably won’t remember much in a couple months. I’m glad I read this and I can finally tell people I have. Cute book, had all the feels. 4 Stars.

Reading this nearly a decade after it first came out was interesting. Ten years ago? 5 star read, made me sob and look at the world differently. Now, I give it a 3.5 -- definitely one of the reason's I'm pro reading a book at different stages in your life. Still a fundamnetally good book, but it is interesting the way your perspective changes when you re-read after years (I probably haven't re-read since 2015 or 2016) -- who you identify with, what makes you roll your eyes, what makes you laugh, little quips you remember underlining the first time round annoy you now. I also understand why John Green once said this was a book he could only write after becoming a parent, which adds just an additional level of heartbreak.

I cried really hard. Revisiting this book (one of the first books I read in elementary school) was a really emotional experience that I'm glad I had. This book starts out kinda intentionally cringy, Hazel was very isolated and had this sense of superiority over everyone that was funny to read, knowing I have been this person before because of my own illnesses, and sometimes continue to be like that. (Although I have toned it down, to the relief of everyone I love) Then John Green decided to assault my feelings with the loveable characters, frustrating issues in their lives, and eventual loss that we as the readers grieve over as well. It was a tough read but not in a bad way, and I stayed up for a whole night to finish it, something I haven't done in years. Thanks John Green for messing up the sleep schedule I have worked hard to fix. This book is a modern classic and I'm glad I can say I have read it.

Is this really a five star? Probably not because the characters are so quirky it’s kind of annoying, but it’s such a good story and there’s the nostalgic aspect. I cried because it is sad. The kissing in Anne Franks house and everyone applauding is so odd. I do really like Hazels family relationships and her friendship forming with Isaia and her relationship with Augustus of course.
