I'm a big fan of Felicia Day and have had this book on my tar list since practically the moment she announced her book on Youtube. Now I'll admit that I waited an entire week before I bought You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost). Once I bought it, I started it right away. The only things that made me put it down was the need for sleep and food.

I'm going to mark this next bit of my review as a spoiler, even though some of it really isn't. (view spoiler) I would recommend everyone read this book. Regardless if you know Felicia Day from her work on Buffy, Supernatural, The Guild, or Geek & Sundry.

Felicia Day's writing captures her voice so well, reading the text on paper felt almost like listening to an audiobook. It was a pleasant easy read, like spending an afternoon with a really interesting friend.

Much bigger name celebrities have written far less inspiring, brave, real, honest, and genuinely funny memoirs. I was disappointed with the last two I had attempted (both written by funny women named "Amy"). So my expectations were low. What a revelation and fun surprise Felicia Day's memoir was! I found myself making time to listen outside the times I would normally fire up an audiobook.

To put my rating in geeky-gamer terms:

+1 Intelligence
+1 Charisma
+1 Willpower
+1 Perception
+1 Wisdom
= 5 stars

4.5- I recommend the audiobook. It was even better hearing this memoir through the author's voice. Of course I love Felicia Day, was one of the many that eagerly awaited fresh episodes of the Guild on YouTube, cheered when Geek and Sundry came to fruition and love how she stood her ground in the face of #gamergate. Side note: it was nice to know I'm not the only people pleasing, Internet obsessed, former writer of Anne of Green Gables fanfic chick with an inner anxiety monologue going. It was great to find Felicia so relatable as well as inspiring. Loved this book. Highly recommend.

Like 2.5? I guess if you're a superfan of Day's you'll be charmed and edified. While I liked learning about her very strange girlhood and college years, once she got famous, I was no longer charmed or edified. I've enjoyed her somewhat in some things, most notably Dr. Horrible, the more she becomes famous for simply being Felicia Day, the less I enjoy her various roles.

Another memoir listened to and loved. It was wonderful to hear her backstory, her struggles, and her voice for hours telling funny stories. She is one of the good ones, trying to make a space for women to be geeky, safely. The book also makes me want to rewatch the guild, and Dr. Horribles sing along blog. They were true works of love and effort that should be enjoyed. The Internet was a different time back then and it was nice to be reminded that it wasn't always like it is today. But no, I don't want dial-up back. Haha

Felicia Day is a filmmaker, actress, musician, and self-proclaimed geek who found herself as an Internet entrepreneur after years of being home schooled and isolated. She moved to Hollywood to become an actress, but her misadventures led her to produce her own web series, own her own production company and become an Internet star. In this charming and funny memoir, Day shares her story and inspires us all to pursue our wildest dreams.

The audio book was amazing as it is read by Felicia Day herself. This book has inspired me to go out and create as well as finding other nerds to connect with.
