Very cute drawings. Has a nice message about consumer culture and how fixing things is a talent.

In a world of no grownups and nearly magical toys, a young inventor is befriended by a girl who has the inborn ability to use the toys. Cheerful colors in a Strawberry Shortcake / Rainbow Brite palette.

Ok, this was a weird little thing. The art is really great and beautiful, and while I enjoyed the basic concept of the book (different people with different abilities that allow different items to be more powerful for them) the actual plot bored me a little. This is for people a solid decade younger than me, so I'm not sure what I expected.

CW: In-world racism or ableism, I'm not sure which.

In the world of this graphic novel, chasma knights are able to bring discarded toys to life by “catalyzing” them. Unfortunately for Beryl, she’s a neon knight, who doesn’t have this power, but she’s found ways to tinker with toys and make them into exciting new creations. One day she meets Coro, an oxygen knight, who is the most powerful type of knight-- together they accidentally create a toy gone haywire and have to work together to save the day. With candy-colored artwork, interesting characters, and good world-building, this is a perfect graphic novel for elementary school readers.

The illustrations were not my favorite, a little too washed out and round-cartoony, it reminded me a bit of a softer Pokemon. I liked that the main character is a girl, and the layout of the graphic novel panes. I thought the story was a bit confusing.

I felt overall that it might be appealing to younger readers, but the story would probably be something that children age out of and do not remember well.

This was very cute and I LOVED the illustrations so much, the colors are AMAZING. I might get it for my niece for christmas, it's a great "confidence in your own abilities" type book.
