This really didn’t work for me. The writing was mediocre due to overly explaining things rather than trusting your reader to get it, to clichés and poor metaphors used by the narrator to describe herself, to trying to make the protagonist sound tough but it coming off as forced, and finally to the framing device which I got tired of halfway through the novel. 
Although the content is meant to be dark, it didn’t impact me as it should have overall because I didn’t care about the protagonist. 
Lastly, the twist ending didn’t add up. It came out of nowhere and felt pieced together by the author as shock value only; sadly it fell flat. 
The only reason I’ve given the book 2 stars rather than 1 is because the plot, mainly the first half, was okay.  I think the framing device had a lot of potential that was wasted on a poorly drawn protagonist, weak writing, and a slapdash resolution.

This is one of the most gut wrenching books I have ever read. Just about every twist and turn absolutely wrecked me, and my heart broke for Annie with every chapter. 

I'd give anything to read it for the first time again, ngl.

Loved this book! It was hard at some points, I would definitely put some trigger warnings on it. I was slightly disappointed in the ending, it wasn’t horrible, but abrupt and could have been better. I read it in two days and would recommend!

Definitely check trigger warnings! However, as someone who has a rape trigger, I found skipping over any scenes just fine for me (it does mention rape a lot though beyond the scenes; it doesn't beat around the bush with it). This book is not worth pushing yourself with triggers though, and again there is A LOT.
