Bought this book only because of the cover. This is my first Sylvia Plath book. I rarely read poetry so it's a bit hard to read and understand (well, for me). I was a bit shocked reading the n-word... Didn't know she was a racist 💀

Ok but this is my favorite:
"If the moon smiled, she would resemble you.
You leave the same impression
Of something beautiful, but annihilating."
— The Rival

I wanted to like this more than I did. There are some poems in here that I absolutely adore, but there are many more where you have to have an intimate knowledge of Plath’s past and views on various subjects in order to have a basic grasp on the meaning. Some poems were unnecessarily and extraordinarily difficult to understand.
