Well written and a good argument for utilitarianism. But the question often asked is "What compels me to live in a utilitarian manner" that is answered by Mill with "Because of the utility of the thing" is highly unsatisfactory. If the standard is utility, it may be in my best interest not to offer that utility to others, or, to not care about the utility of the thing as well. There's an objective standard out there, and this ain't it, chief.

The most logically and effectively argued piece of philosophy I've ever read. I don't necessarily agree with all his claims, but the man can write.

One of the better written philosophy essay collections and overall arguments in history. However, his ideology is so clearly flawed and his pre-prepared responses to the flawed belief system are even more complicated and weak. His philosophy is as thin as butter and the more he attempts to cover all of his toast, the thinner it is spread.

the few insights mill has are drowned in the logical fallacies, falsities, and inconsistencies in a dead ethics
