What a great retelling of the origins of Greek Mythology. Fantastic storytelling with a background on more than just big players, which I really appreciated.

Fry enraptured with his storytelling and captured the legends perfectly for new learners to myth, and old.

Looking forward to continuing on with this series.

This was brilliant! A great introduction to Greek mythology, well written and very easy to read. I loved how the book showed how Greek mythology has influenced our language and literature.

The first quarter was essentially a genealogy of the ancient God's, setting up the Titans and Olympians. It was necessary but definitely slower and read more like a presentation of facts rather than story.

I found that it got much better after the first quarter.

Really good, but I think the subject matter was just too ambitious for one book.

Book 1 of 2021 and I couldn’t have started with a better read than Mythos by Stephen Fry.

What do you even say about a book like Mythos? To say that it was refreshingly wonderful will be an understatement. Very rarely have I read a book on mythology which does not read like a book on mythology. This book is like a fireside conversation with Fry where he regales you with some disturbing, some hilarious stories about seemingly old friends (except these friends are Greek gods with unpronounceable names and their antics have cosmic and cataclysmic consequences).

Stephen Fry talks about Greek myths as someone who knows how weirdly twisted it all is but loves it regardless and wants other people to see and appreciate them for what they really are at the end of the day, stories. In his own words “And pleasure is what immersing yourself in the world of Greek myth is all about”. He doesn’t care if you get the names wrong or if you don’t have prior knowledge of Greek myths, all he wants to do is tell these fascinating stories, stories for you to love and enjoy, and love and enjoy them you will.

I haven’t read a better book on mythology really, hands down one of my favourites. I’m so very excited to read Heroes and Troy too now. *jumps up and down while clapping excitedly*
