Really creative in the mystery, but definitely a bit rushed. Love Lyric and Dr. Moore.

I adore this whole series. rarely are there books thats make me scream and slam it down to send endless text to my best friend about how much I hate or love certain characters, even when I've read it before. the best thing about these books is that the plot twists are truly rooted in plausible forensic science that is sometimes so obscure you could have never thought it up and that's what makes it a twist.
I just reread this book for the first time in a while and the one thing I'll say is it is mind numbingly frustrating to know that Kyle is the killer the whole time because the reveal doesn't happen until there's fewer than 50 pages left. so I was just left screaming "he's literally going to try and kill you" anytime Cammie was talking about how great he was or screaming "it's because you're right" when Justin was hesitant to trust him.

Forensic Mysteries, book 2.

Cameryn is still moonlighting as an assistant to the coroner, her dad. When a popular English teacher from the local high school is found dead in his bedroom, the gruesome state of his body is unlike anything the medical examiner has ever seen. As in the first book, the autopsy scene was the highlight of the story, detailed and interesting. I was intrigued by the corpse and wanted to know what killed him, but that was all that kept me reading. The dialogue was scant and stilted and I felt like the author did more telling than showing. This made it hard to form a connection with any of the characters.

In this sequel to [b:The Christopher Killer|935308|Faceless Killers (Wallander #1)|Henning Mankell|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1179600493s/935308.jpg|2885250], Cameryn Mahoney is taken down to size. All of the great elements of the previous book are here (good characterization, romance, mystery, suspense). In fact, there is even more romance than previously in the form of Kyle, Cameryn's peer, but the book was not as compelling for me because Cameryn was a victim who needed to be rescued.

I can see, however, why this book was important to the series. Through the eyes of Cameryn the reader learns about the truly disturbing mental processes of serial killers. All is not gloves and text books in the world of forensics. Cameryn learns about this first hand, and Ferguson paints the details in her inimitable way, complete with the gruesome bits.

Overall, a good read. YA mystery fans will undoubtedly enjoy this book.

2.5 stars. Every now and then, there would be an overly melodramatic sentence. And there was one hilarious typo ("out of the coroner of her eye"). Also, there's only one person the killer could possibly be out of the list of characters, so it's no huge surprise at the end. It was pretty well written though. Just a little too...gross. And if I say it's gross, it's pretty gross; I have a strong stomach for crime novels.
