This book had an overly complicated plot but it still was interesting to try to unravel all the players and motives. Kept me guessing and engaged even if it wasn’t always believable.

Found this author on KU and I’m glad. I can’t wait to start another series by this author and upset that this series is coming to an end.Â

I loved the first Gretchen White book "A Familiar Sight" (which I read last year), so I was so excited for this one! I'm not sure why but Gretchen's character seemed more... "wild" this time around? In the first book she seemed much more refined and professional, where in this one she was a bit more unrestrained. The peeks into 8-year-old Gretchen's personality were awesome! I found the whole murder mystery aspect of the plot pretty complicated and a little hard to follow, I kept having to remind myself of things, but that's probably just me. At 90% it was just twist after twist and I couldn't put this book down! I can't wait for #3 next year!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in return for an honest review.
What Can't Be Seen by Brianna Labuskes is a different take on a psychological thriller. It gives great insight into how a sociopath's mind works and how they view and deal with emotions.
Sociopath Gretchen White is a police consultant, however she has a dark past. She killed her aunt when she was only 9 years old. Or did she?? Her police partner convinces her to look into her case and find out what really happened.
I really enjoyed this book, especially with the view from Gretchen being so different to the norm. This kept me hooked until the end!

It blows my mind that this is free to read on KU. It’s an excellent read and just as interesting and thoughtfully plotted as the first.
