Data reunites with the Enterprise crew in one of the most weird ways possible. They come to his assistance as he is arrested and awaiting conviction for a crime he may have not committed.

The action takes place on the Orion homeworld while a major espionage operation is being carried out against two heads of state.

Once you've stomached the big changes of book 1, you're ready to enjoy this fantastic tale.

I didn't love this one quite as much as the first installment, but it was still very good. There are some fascinating character developments for both long-beloved Trek heroes and those we've only seen in the novels. It's all set amid a fun puzzle of political intrigue with some great moments seen through the eyes of some of Trek's alien races.

The Breen are up to no good and everyone knows it, but what are they actually trying to accomplish? Lots of action here, and Data gets in big trouble while attempting to fulfill a private mission. 3.5 stars
