Love the FMC - great character development for her, hope we get more for the other characters in the rest of the series

This reads as a romance in a fantasy setting, I typically enjoy when romance is a subplot rather than the focus.
If you're a romance reader who enjoys spice I'd say this will be a 5 star read for you.
That being said - I still enjoyed it greatly, what plot there was outside of the relationship was excellent and I hope we get more of it in the rest of the series.

Way too much SA. A .5 bump only for the resilience of the FMC.

Reading this book honestly made me feel sick to my stomach. It's not just that he met her when she 15, but that they had this "friendship" during her teenage years that sure did feel a lot like grooming. What's really shitty is that I like the concept of the book. Really there is no reason for this to have started while she was in highschool instead of college. The school she went to was already set up like a college. Even if she would have killed the step dad at 18 there could have been a few years between that and the magic wearing off making her reach out again. I don't mind a power imbalance in a book but this just went beyond.

Got half way through the book and nothing but back and forth emotional manipulation between the protagonists. Plus the romantic under tone for an adult and minor relationship is icky.

Rhapsodic was a fairly spicy Romantsy story. It was scary but threaded with sexual assault.  The age difference between the characters was problematic for me.  It wasn't just that there was one, but the age and circumstances of their first meeting  gave me the ick.  The mystery of the children and catatonic fae was scary, but I wasn't satisfied with the resolution.  Perhaps the payoff is further down the series, but I won't get there.  I don't like sexual victimization as a plot point, and it was really the only thing moving the story forward.

It’s a brilliant book, really good premise for the fantasy plot, however she’s 16 when they meet and it’s very codependent, which I understand given her history but it just toes the wrong side of the line for me. The book is set 7 years later so nothing bad happens when she’s under age but it’s still felt a little predatory for me.
