Simple world building, easy to get hooked by the first chapter, and stays interesting the whole time.
The romance slowly gets a little uninteresting once they get closer, but that opens space for the plot so I can’t complain. 
I will definitely be completing the series.

I found the romance plot to be lots of fun, a little dark but still consentual. The main plot I found... gross? See content warnings for that.

the main antagonist kidnaps women, drugs them to paralysis/coma, rapes them until they're pregnant, then sends them back to their home lands in a glass coffin with the baby who is also some cursed vampire thing. The kids are described in some detail, the rape isn't described explicitly but is acknowledged. We get a scene where it is described how the antagonist forces a kiss which then pushes the poison air or whatever into the victim's lungs, making them ill. The more explicit bad stuff happens in the last bit of the book, up to that point they simply don't talk about what the babies are clearly the result of.

This was a lot more relationship driven than plot driven - which others may like - but wasn’t for me. The moments that should have been climaxes just weren’t that intense. The relationship was a little weird to me - one of those “ancient fae king falls in love with 16 year old human” stories. Almost a little Stockholm-y. FMC was kind of lame, and MMC was supposedly “King of the night” aka Mr Lust - but when the sex scenes finally came, they were so vanilla. Very lame for the trash talk leading up to it. 
I did enjoy the banter between the FMC & MMC in the middle 3rd of the book. And I didn’t have to drag myself through the read. So that earns it 3.25 stars. But, eh - just not for me.

This was such a fun read! The overarching plot was not necessarily a major focus but I found that to be incredibly intriguing. The flashbacks at the beginning of every chapter were a fun way to parallel present day.

Love the FMC - great character development for her, hope we get more for the other characters in the rest of the series

This reads as a romance in a fantasy setting, I typically enjoy when romance is a subplot rather than the focus.
If you're a romance reader who enjoys spice I'd say this will be a 5 star read for you. 
That being said - I still enjoyed it greatly, what plot there was outside of the relationship was excellent and I hope we get more of it in the rest of the series.
