A sweet, (albeit slightly stalkerish for a bit) story.

My friend's mother-in-law read this for her bookclub and said it was one of her favorite books in her 70 years. I do get why. It was quite delightful and fun and strangely I wrote down a lot of reading recommendations from it.

This was a very quick, rather delightful read. A bookseller happens across a discarded handbag in a trash bin. Reluctantly, he begins sorting through its contents with the hope of finding clues about its owner, hoping to return it. Though he finds nothing official to reveal its owner, he comes across a red notebook filled with intimate thoughts and musings. Thus begins the puzzle of learning who this woman is, and how to find her.

Genre: contemporary fiction?
Rating: 2/5⭐️
Synopsis: a bookstore owner finds an abandoned bag in an alley and decides to find its owner back by following the clues inside the bag. It is a very quick and easy read, but I thought it was cringy at times…
I don’t think I would find it cute if someone read my private journal and even went in my apartment a few times… even if he didn’t steal anything and took care of my cat, I would still just change my locks and actually consider moving out

This was one of those enchanting and beautifully written novels that I never wanted to put down. It follows two characters; Laure, a gilder who got mugged and had her bag stolen and Laurent, a bookseller who finds her bag and sets out on finding her to return it. What follows is an adventure for Laurent as he tries to look at every aspect of her belongings in hopes to identify and find her.

I loved everything about this book; how sweet and determined Laurent seemed, how hopelessly lost Laure seemed without her belongings and that the book told both stories in parallel. The best part is what the title of the book signifies; the red notebook he finds in her bag that has all her thoughts and feelings jotted down. You can see Laurent becoming more and more interested in Laure just reading her words and his hope that he not only finds her to return her bag but that he can get to know her more. The rest of the story plays out beautifully and you're almost sad when it ends because you want to learn more about these characters. It's a short and easy read that you wish would be longer. I highly recommend to anyone that needs a quick and enchanting read.

A perfect little story! I highly recommend this especially as a palette cleanser between heavier reads. It’s the perfect French rom-com and gives While You Were Sleeping (the Sandra Bullock movie) vibes if it was more French and had an emphasis on all the other people in the main characters’ lives as well. A heartwarming story in 160 pages.

Cute. Charming. Quick, but satisfying.
