The illustrations are cute but nothing about the plot or characters was that investment-worthy. It was mostly whiney and immature.

It definitely wasn't what I was expecting, but it wasn't bad. Then again, I didn't think it was all that great either.

At first I didn't like this AT ALL, but it grew on me and in the end, I do think it's a strong YA novel. Better than Chime and Everybody Sees the Ants? No. But I'll stop being bitter about the Printz Medal one of these days.

I just generally don't like the quirky girl in YA literature. Min was a little "too" everything and I don't think I would have wanted to be her friend, so her plight didn't quite appeal to me as much as it should have.

My expectations were high because this is a Printz Honor Book, but I was disappointed. At times I found the narrator's voice funny, but mostly she came off as pretentious and overdramatic. So.much.angst. From the very beginning it's obvious how things are going to play out. I like when a teen romance begins with the guy and girl being friends because I think that's a healthy way to start a relationship, but can't a guy and girl EVER be just friends in literature? I didn't completely hate the book, but there's just nothing that makes it feel special to me and I don't consider it Printz-worthy. I know many patrons and friends have enjoyed it, though, so maybe it's not just my type of story.

This hit too close to home.

First: I love Lemony Snicket and this confirms that Handler is a great writer because this book still has an amazing prose while being something different then Series of Unfortunate Events or All the Wrong Questions.

Second. I am sick of break up letters that are 300 plus pages long. (I'm looking at you 13 Reasons Why and Stargirl).

Third. I will probably find a way to use this book as part of a middle school unit on relationships leading up to the "big talk" about sex...

It was a beautiful story of young love, and the main character's view of the world was so refreshing. I understand it's supposed to be told in the millions of run on sentences but it was a bit too hard to grasp at times. I think 6th grade me loved this much more than current me, but that's all right. Good to know I've grown as a person. It started off a bit slow, and ended just a bit disappointing. I just wanted to know a bit more about the after, but I guess that's for us to decide

I wanted to love this book. I didn’t even like it. None of the characters were likeable, lots of sentences made no sense and I just didn’t care why they broke up.
