While I loved the art I think I needed a little more from this.

A creepy story about romanticizing past relationships. Good use of the extended metaphor.

This seems more symbolic and dream-like than Sala's earlier stuff, but there is more to it than anything he's done recently or in quite a while, and for that I'm pleased. It gives this impression that maybe it all means something deeper like maybe there's a large allegory at work here (especially with the chapter names like "frog" and "spider" and the corresponding imagery) but... I don't think there is, and I don't mind so much. I'm just happy that there's some meat to this and more than a few pages of content or just a whiff a story that I don't care it doesn't really make sense. It's still a super interesting read.

Again, Sala's artwork is right up my alley, but his writing is not quite at the same level. And this is a very surreal story, which is something I also like, although I feel that even surrealism needs to have some sort of logical underpinning, even if it is only logical in the world of the story. There are some things here that I'm not sure even the author knew the answers to. I don't know, I'm not sure that it matters. Definitely recommend for the artwork!
